Stan Muhammad (V2K H.E.L.P.E.R. Co-Founder)

Ansar El Muhammad aka Brother Stan spent most of this childhood in Compton in Venice California.  He got involved in Gang activity at a very young age which led to 15 years of a non-productive lifestyle.  His influence came from Family members who were entrenched in negative activities for two generations.  This type of behavior ultimately led to violence, drug use and incarceration.

After serving time in a federal penitentiary he recommitted himself to the life giving teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and the Nation of Islam, through the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan’s Study Course “Self Improvement the Basis for Community Development.  Upon his release in 1995 he was granted the opportunity from his parole office to attend the Historical Million Man March.  This was a turning point in his commitment to his native community Venice California.

In 1999 he was one of the key organizers in developing a community based organization, to serve Gang members and their families and addressing the issues that were affecting the community.

  • In October of 199 he Co-Founded Venice 2000 known today as The H.EL.P.E.R. Foundation.
  •  He is certified with the State of California as a Mentor/Tutor for Gang Involved Youth Cal State University of Los Angeles Pat Brown Institute.
  • He is certified with the State of California as a Mentor/Tutor for Gang Involved Youth Cal State University of Northridge
  • He is currently a facilitator of The Los Angeles Violence Intervention Training Academy
  • He is currently and Executive Member of the Cease Fire Committee of Southern California
  • He served 3 consecutive years as an elected Officer (VNC) Venice Neighborhood Council.
  • He has received certificates of recognition from State, County, City and Local Officials.
  • He serves as member of the council of community Violence Intervention Professionals.
  • He serves as a member of the Unity Collaborative.
  • He is a Facilitator of the Amer-I-Can life management skill curriculum, Founded by the Hall of Fame Football player Jim Brown.
  • He is currently the regional Gang Intervention Coordinator for the Nation of Islam.

Mr. Muhammad is committed to making communities safe, as he unites business, residents, local government agencies, churches and community based organizations to save our youth and young adults through collaborative efforts that emphasize education, training and empowerment. 

Melvyn Hayward (V2K H.E.L.P.E.R. Co-Founder)

Melvyn Hayward Jr. serves as the Director of Operations for V2K / H.E.L.P.E.R Foundation. His commitment to affecting positive change in the youth and young adults from low income and communities plagued with violence has made a difference in the lives of thousands in Los Angeles and Antelope Valley Communities.   Mr. Hayward brings 10 years of experience working with at-risk youth who have been associated with gangs and crime in Los Angeles. 

He has been instrumental in the Venice California Community as co-founder of H.E.L.P.E.R. Foundation (formerly known as Venice 2000), which has successfully rehabilitated over 1000 young men and women in the city’s most violent neighborhoods, reconnecting them to their communities through mentoring, education, training and employment.  Through the H.E.L.P.E.R. FOUNDATION, the Cease Fire Committee, the Unity Collaborative and his work with the Advancement Project he has helped over 1200 adolescents break ties with gangs and prepare for lives as successful productive members of society.
